A Photo Can Convey Image But Not Presence
A few weeks ago someone found themselves crying in my studio while looking at a painting (pictured later in this email).
She is now the 5th or 6th person I've seen tear up in front of my work over the last few years.
I sit here at 10pm tonight writing this because I just realized why...
Why time and time again people see my work in person and can't believe how much better it looks than online.
Why one collector of mine went from never buying art in her (seven-decade) life, to buying one of my pieces within a week of first seeing it in person... and now has 5 of my pieces.
It's also why I now have full faith (this wasn't always the case) that someone buying my art online without ever seeing it in person, will like it even more once they receive it.
This is why:
"A photo can convey image but not presence"
Have you ever tried to take a picture of a stunning sunset but the photo just wasn't the same?
Exactly.
"A photo can convey image but not presence"
Our beady little eye balls are just one small form in which we observe the world.
We also feel the world, whether you are privy to it or not.
And boy oh boy is feeling such a gift of being a human.
The human gift of feeling is the theme of my upcoming show, Unseen, which will showcase 7 oversize canvases ("oversize" = larger than your entire body).
They're basically portals of color on canvas in front of you... leaving you with nowhere to go but to be enveloped by the presence of each painting.
I would tease you with photos of the 7 pieces, but to be honest they're not finished yet... (if you're following along my Instagram or YouTube, you know about my race current against the clock to get these finished in time.)
More updates to follow, but until then, mark your calendar.
See you there,
PS: This was the latest cry-causing painting. Ain't she a beauty?
Continuum 2, 52" x 68"
PPS: If you can't make it to the show, but want to re-create the spectacle in your own home, I have paintings available for collection. Check them out here - https://www.juliancastro.art/available-works
