Imposter Syndrome Never Goes Away — You Just Get Stronger

· 2 min read

TLDR - it never goes away

Imposter Syndrome is like going to the gym.

Today, I might be able to lift 100 lbs, and when I do, it feels like my max effort.

In a year, I might be able to lift 150 lbs, and when I do, it feels like my max effort.

Both lifts feel the same... like my max effort.

Yet in the second lift, I am lifting more.

This is how imposter syndrome works when applied to marketing and feeling comfortable with more people seeing your creations.

(Side bar: This entire conversations only matters if you care about people seeing your work, that is... and especially if you're in the business of making money from your creations.

If you're the mad scientist type, creating in your basement, happy as a pig in mud, with zero need for the outside world to see your work... good on you.)

Continued... today it might be scary to post a picture of your drawing... but still it's possible.

Today, it may be TOO scary to post a video of you talking about a new collection of drawings that are now for sale on your website. Yeah... no way.

BUT... if you keep going to the imposter syndrome gym... keep working out at the level you can manage each day... in a year you'll be able to "lift" the video and make some sales.

There are levels of imposter sydrome. It never goes away. You get stronger.

Here's a deliciously aesthetic video filmed from Portugal of me talking about this concept, specifically applied to marketing my art.

But wait there's more... if'n you're interested in going deeper on the topic of imposter syndrome and sharing your art with the world, respond to this email to let me know your number 1 challenge in sharing your work.

I'll be sure to include proven tips and methods in February's issue of Creative Genius.

Stay tuned,
