Oceanic

There is a deep desire in the human psyche to harness nature and more specifically, conquer the ocean. It is why explorers and civilizations of old always looked to the seas for the promise of new lands. With Oceanic, I wanted to put a body of water on your wall, yet frame it in a beautiful deep wood. This gives the sense of harnessing the ocean. The dyed resin center gives a sense of deep water, while the straight wooden edges give a sense of containing the ocean. I also wanted the wood to resemble ships used to explore the oceans. This was my first piece using resin. I dyed the resin which creates more depth to the eye. I then hand built the wooden frame to be able to hold multiple layers of the resin and allow it to pool within the wooden frame.
